My Google Chrome Thumbnails Disappeared
In the recent version of Google Chrome, the new tab page was redesigned. The number of thumbnail previews was significantly reduced from 8 to 4 boxes. If you are not happy with this change, here is a simple trick you can use to increase the number of thumbnails.

After not being happy with the changes which Mozilla constantly makes to Firefox, some time ago I switched to Chrome (and Chromium on Linux). Today, I finally upgraded my web browser to Chromium 64 and was surprised with the change made to the new tab page in the browser.
Here is how it looks:
Jun 9, 2010 - My browser's thumbnails disappeared from the new tab page! Google's Toolbar places thumbnails of your most visited Web sites. So, to get that feature back, you can install either Firefox or Google's own Chrome browser.
The new appearance of the new tab page is not a bug. From what I see, the new tab page is now more touch friendly. Its size has been increased, so thumbnails are now bigger and do not fit most screens. Even on my Full HD screen, I see only 4 thumbnails.

Here are three workarounds I've found to fight the new limitation.
To get 8 thumbnails on the New Tab Page in Google Chrome, do the following.
- Open your Chrome browser.
- Open the New Tab page.
- Keep pressing Ctrl + - until you see 8 thumbnails.
Using these hotkeys, you are downscaling the new tab page. In my case, at zoom level 80% all the thumbnails become visible. To reset the zoom level, press Ctrl + 0.
Obviously, this solution is not ideal. It requires changing the zoom level of thumbnails every time you open the new tab page.
Alternatively, you can change the default zoom level in Settings. You can set the Zoom level to 90% or 80%, but you will have issues with certain websites at that zoom level.
Well, there are a couple of alternative solutions.
Get 8 tiles on New Tab Page in Google Chrome
First of all, you can change the default search engine. For example, you can set https://startpage.com or https://duckduckgo.com as your search provider.
- Open an alternative search service.
- Right click the address bar in Chrome (omni box) and select Edit search engines.
- Select the new search provider as your default search engine.
- Now, open the new tab page. The search box will disappear. Instead, you will get 8 web site thumbnails.
The second solution is to install a third-party New Tab page extension like New Tab Reloaded. It restores the classic look of the New Tab page. If you are happy with its look, then this option would be the best for you.

The Google Chrome Web browser is designed with an emphasis on speed and simplicity. It includes a built-in system for managing bookmarks or favorites and can optionally keep them displayed on screen at all times. If you experience problems with your favorites disappearing from the screen or from the browser completely, there are a number of possible causes; they might have been temporarily hidden, inadvertently deleted or removed by a sync with another computer.

Displaying Bookmarks
If your bookmarks have disappeared from the Chrome screen, the bookmark bar has become hidden. Hit 'Ctrl' plus 'Shift' plus 'B' to bring it back. The same option is available via the Bookmarks sub-menu on the Settings menu. Place a tick next to 'Always show bookmarks bar.' Otherwise the bookmarks bar appears only on the New Tab screen, together with installed Web apps and recently visited pages.
Bookmark Management
If the bookmarks bar is visible but there are no bookmarks listed, or some are missing, they may have been deleted or moved through the bookmark manager tool. Navigate to chrome://bookmarks in the browser to access the tool. You can then search for bookmarks, move bookmarks between folders, view bookmark properties and access other related settings. Click the 'Recent' link to see bookmarks that have been recently favorited. If your bookmarks have been inadvertently moved to a different folder, drag and drop them into the correct location. Missing bookmarks can be reinstated manually by clicking 'Add page' from the Organize menu.
Bookmarks Sync
Google Chrome features a tool that enables you to sync your bookmarks across multiple computers; it's located on the Personal Stuff page at chrome://settings/personal. If you've changed your bookmark settings on another PC, or someone else has while using your Google account, then these changes will be reflected across all the computers where sync has been activated. You can choose to disable syncing for your bookmarks by clicking 'Customize' or switch off the feature completely.
Further Troubleshooting
Click the 'About Google Chrome' option on the Settings menu to see if you're running the latest version of Chrome. Check the Google Chrome Help Forum for solutions specific to the issue you're having. The more specific you can be about which bookmarks have disappeared and how, the easier it will be to find other users with the same problem. Include details of the version of Chrome you're running and any actions you were taking when the bookmarks disappeared, such as upgrading the browser.
